Big Bear is the place to be for anyone looking to experience an authentic winter in Southern California! Throughout the peaks and valleys of the mountain town, visitors can finally dust off their skis and explore the backcountry of the San Bernardino Mountains with a big of snow. You can enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate in cozy cabin and also hit the slopes. Just a short trip from Los Angeles and San Diego, the mountain city lets everyone enjoy the best parts of winter.

Maybe you are a first-timer, wanting to try something new. On your trek up to Big Bear, make a stop in Running Springs at the local’s fav Snow Valley for bunny slopes or sledding. Click here for a full trail map to explore. Running Springs is also home to Rim Nordic, Southern California’s only cross country ski trail. Click here for rates and seasonal passes.

Now, you’ve made it to Big Bear! Big Bear attracts skiers and snowboarders who flock to its two mountain ski resorts: Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. These sister ski resorts are home to the largest beginner areas, only halfpipes, and the highest lift-served peak (8805 ft) in the region.  They offer season passes, deals & discounts, weekday deals, terrain parks, ski and snowboard packages and lessons for the entire family.  Big Bear is a great place to learn how to ski!  Throughout the winter, Big Bear ski resorts offer kids ski camps, night sessions and events.  Check out the calendar to learn more!  Click here for Lift & Lodging Packages.

In addition to the best skiing and snowboarding in Southern California, outdoor enthusiasts can opt to explore the mountain city on two feet or four wheels. The Holcomb Valley OHV Road 3N16 is made for those who enjoy off-roading as 26 miles of backcountry dirt roads wind through the San Bernardino National Forest. If you are a first-timer, hit up Big Bear Jeep Experiences and they’ll give you an introduction into off-roading with a guided Jeep tour of the destination including stops to snap a few photos.

During this time of year, the snow completely changes the landscape of the mountains. Consider making your own adventure exploring the frosty forest with riding a fat tire bike or snowshoeing. On a fat tire bike, you can take on the backwoods of the mountains and see more of the forest. While snowshoeing is a bit slower-paced, it allows adventurers to truly take in the sights and more chances to take awesome photos. Goldsmiths Sports and Bear Valley Bikes have all the equipment needed, along with a few helpful guides, to set you up with all the essentials to explore the mountains at your own pace.

What’s your adventure? Whether you plan on slashing through the slopes or trekking through the snow, Big Bear is ready to welcome all adventurers to its side of the mountain.
